This narrative illustration is based on a line from The Just; a poem from Jorge Luis Borges. The poem begins with this line - “A man who cultivates his garden, as Voltaire wished”. From this line, themes of intellectual and spiritual growth, mental health, and self-care were pulled. To express the flourishing and bright way growth was shown within the poem, it was depicted with the lush, flowering vines of the Black-eyed Susan vining plant which symbolizes encouragement and motivation. The person is shown journaling and studying; books in the upper half and other equipment such as a journal in the bottom half. Sketch, value study, and color study from the process included at the bottom.
